A Capitol Hill High School teacher is arrested for possession of drugs and resisting arrest

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Bradford Franks Jr., 29, was cooperative with the investigation until the handcuffs came out.

At that point, there was a bit of a struggle.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons said, "You never know what you are going to get into whenever you stop a vehicle."

He explained that in this particular case, Trooper Rusty Russell stopped Franks Friday morning near mile marker 84 on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.

Russell reported Franks was speeding at 90 MPH, but  that ended up being the least of his concerns.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Russell detected an odor of alcohol on Franks' breath.

Franks denied that he had been drinking.

The trooper was later given permission  to search Franks' truck and reported finding a can of beer that was half full and ice cold.

OHP said a bag of marijuana, a pack of rolling papers, and a pipe were also found in the vehicle.

The trooper said he tried to take Franks but he put up a bit of a fight.

"The individual put his hands on the tailgate and refused to release the tailgate, so the trooper could take him into custody," Timmons said. An off-duty officer pulled up and assisted Russell.

Franks was booked into the Grady County jail on complaints of speeding, drug possession and resisting arrest. Franks bonded out of jail Monday but his job may be in question.

Franks works as a teacher at Capitol Hill High School. Although, he was not on campus at the time of the incident, the Oklahoma City Public School District said it's aware of the incident and taking steps to determine his future with the district.

The district also said Franks passed a pre-employment drug screening and background check before he was hired in October.

We spoke with Franks by phone Tuesday morning. He said, “I deny the allegations and will fight the charges aggressively.”
