An intensive search continues for a Park Hill murder suspect after he broke out of the Muskogee County jail late Sunday along with his cellmate.

Investigators said Paul Newberry, 24, and Raymond Noriega, 36, escaped Sunday night. Surveillance video shows Newberry and Raymond Noriega jump from the roof and run away.

The jailbreak happened around 10:30 Sunday night and the sheriff said jailers discovered the two men missing after a cell check.

Noriega was recaptured about an hour later.  He was taken to a Muskogee hospital with two broken ankles after jumping off the jail's roof.

Newberry is charged in the murder of Cherokee County rancher Charley Kirk, 88, during a July burglary. Friends of Kirk said they hope Newberry gets caught.

Pictures and memories of Kirk and his ranching buddies are all over the Keys restaurant. Owner Samantha Adamson said Kirk came into her restaurant frequently over the years.

"This is one of my favorite pictures of him I've seen, it's Charley on his horse he loved to ride," she said.

Sheriff Charles Pearson said this is the second time inmates have escaped from the jail in its 30-year history.

Pearson said deputies are interviewing inmates because they suspect some may have helped the two men escape.

Pearson said Newberry should be considered armed and dangerous.

"We want our citizens to be vigilant,” the sheriff said. “He's a serious threat to our community anywhere else he goes or wherever he might be heading."

Adamson said, "I have faith they'll catch him. Too many people know who he is and what he's done. They'll catch him. He'll be back behind bars. He'll get what he deserves, I think."

Pearson said Newberry might be injured from the escape because of the jump from the roof and from the breakout.

The sheriff has set up a tip line. You can call 918-687-1275 if you have information.
