Police arrested a man on a murder complaint in connection to an assault that left one person dead in northeast Oklahoma City, Saturday night.

According to police, at about 7:24 p.m., officers responded to the report of an assault with a dangerous weapon near N.E. 23rd and N. Martin Luther King Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, 62-year-old Ronnie Lee Temple, lying on the ground suffering from a head trauma. Temple was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned that a physical altercation occurred between Temple and the suspect, 54-year-old Ronnie Eugene Smith.

Smith, police said, assaulted the victim. He was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder.

Temple’s death is Oklahoma City’s 87th homicide of 2015, according to police. Smith is being held without bond at the Oklahoma County Jail.
