This year has proven to be a monumental year for precipitation in Oklahoma, according to the state's climatologist.

The previous record for the wettest year in Oklahoma was 1957, when the state received 47.88 inches. As of December 10, Oklahoma has already received 48 inches of rain in 2015.

State Climatologist Gary McManus said six of the eleven months this year actually saw lower-than-average rainfall. However, he said May of 2015 became the wettest month in state history with 14.44 inches of rain. The April-July period was much wetter than average and so was November, combining to set the new record.

With good chances of precipitation this weekend and at the end of next week, McManus said the new record could go even higher.
