A Norman woman looking to rent a house turned to News 9 for help, after she said her prospective landlord started making odd requests.

Brittney Holley is a single mother who works two jobs to support her 1-year-old daughter, who has health issues.

Holley said she recently went online and found a house to rent in northwest Oklahoma City.

However, she says the supposed landlord — who goes by the name John Conell — started making odd requests, including wanting Holley to email him photos of her and her daughter.

She said he also claimed that he lives in London, England.

When she did an internet check on the property, and it doesn’t belong to anyone named John Conell.

“The fact somebody would have the heart to do this is crazy, it’s sad,” she said.

Norman Public Safety spokeswoman Sarah Jensen said police are investigating.

“Anyone who asks you to send money without a formal contract, without you having face to face communication, you really never should send money unless you a have a definite contract in your hands, that makes you feel comfortable sending money,” she said.
