OKLAHOMA CITY -

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students at Oklahoma City's Monroe Elementary have been looking forward to this day all year. Friday morning, they got to sit down with a Santa who knows their language.

This Santa uses sign language to communicate with the kids, and ask them what they want for Christmas.

“This is very important. This is a chance for them to be normal kids like everybody else and talk to Santa, and just get the opportunity to be around other deaf and hard of hearing kids from around the state to know that they're not the only ones, there're other kids just like them out there,” teacher JoAnna White said.

We're told Legos, Star Wars and Ninja Turtles are on lots of wish lists this Christmas.

The signing Santa event is hosted by the Northwest OKC Rotary Club. Proceeds from pictures with Santa at Northpark Mall are used to fund this special event.
