OKLAHOMA CITY -

News 9 is learning more about the tragic death of an Edmond teenager who was killed in a car accident on Tuesday morning.

Wednesday, Joshua Jones' high school soccer coach paid tribute to the 16-year-old varsity player.

Tuesday morning, 16-year-old Josh Jones was supposed to be on the soccer field. He was on his way to Edmond Memorial High School for soccer practice, but he never made it.

"Josh was a terrific kid," Edmond Memorial High School head soccer coach Jeff Lovett said. "He had a kind heart. He was a very hard worker, very strong work ethic."

He was dedicated and got up before school to make a 6 a.m. soccer practice. He was a returning varsity player and only a junior.

"He was the type of kid that every coach wants to have in their program," Lovett said.

However, Tuesday morning, Josh's mother had a feeling, a mother's intuition, and called the school.

"I got a call from his mother about 10 o'clock saying that she saw there was wreck by their house, and she just wanted to make sure that Josh made it to soccer OK that morning, and I told her that he did not make it," Lovett said.

Lovett then contact Josh's first and second hour teachers. He never made it to class either. It was Josh.

"The toughest thing is seeing his teammates, his friends who've played with him some of them for a really long time, some of them neighbors who live just a few yards down that was the hardest thing in the world to sit them down and tell them what happened to their buddy and their teammate," Lovett said.

Blue eyes with a boyish smile, a face now missing from the field, but one they'll never forget.

Funeral arrangements or a memorial service for Joshua have not been announced.
