An Oklahoma senator spoke with News 9 about his reaction to the mass shooting at a Colorado planned parenthood.
Some suggest hateful rhetoric by GOP leaders is to blame for the shooting that left three dead and nine injured. Senator James Lankford has been one of the leading members of Congress who stands against Planned Parenthood, but the President of Planned Parenthood has said "hateful rhetoric has real impact."
That real impact many believe Cecile Richards is referring to is the mass shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic.
Robert Dear is accused of killing three and wounding nine on Friday -- an act Lankford said is irrational and so is a connection to his efforts to defund the program.
"I think it's absurd and they're using the politics of this. This is a very bad time. That would be akin to say those of us who feel there needs to be a reform in education should be blamed every time there's a school shooting. That's absurd. This is someone who's not rational, who stepped into a place and killed people. We don't know all the motivations or why, but it's not rational to say because some of us speak out for the life of children, it's inspired someone else to kill adults," said Sen. James Lankford, R-OK.
Dear is expected to be charged next week, and could face the death penalty if convicted.
