Due to all the problems with the icy weather, the City of Yukon canceled their "Christmas in the Park" light display for Saturday. Also, a few major intersections are expected to be closed for a couple of days.
That includes Holly Ave around Kimball Park and Garth Brooks Boulevard between Main Street and Vandement. Several power poles and power lines are down and blocking the street, creating a dangerous situation. Yukon Police did put up road blocks and had officers stationed in the area to keep drivers out.
Though roads were only wet, everything above ground was encased in a heavy layer of ice. It caused a large number of trees to split in two and large limbs could be heard breaking all over the city. And tens of thousands of people are without power.
The City of Yukon is posting important information and updates on their Twitter and Facebook pages. People are encouraged to stay inside and off the roads to avoid falling power lines and tree limbs.
A Canadian County warming station is open for those in need. It is located at 211 N.Country Club in El Reno.
