People in Yukon spent Saturday morning in the dark and cleaning up frozen trees which snapped overnight.

Power outages were reported as early as 2 a.m., Saturday in Yukon. Not only were people waking up in the dark they were waking up to a mess. Many people took matters in their own hands and tried to clear away trees that broke and the power lines that came down with it.

Large trees covered in ice landed all over cars, homes and roads in Yukon. Instead of waiting for the city to clear them, Josh Billings and his neighbors grabbed a chainsaw.

"It’s quite the ordeal, it’s like a war zone. His backyard is worse than what it is here but like I said, we are good friends, good neighbors, it’s what we do,” said Billings.

Frozen tree limbs covered his driveway and car. His neighbor across the street nearly got hit!

“Just backed out to go to Lowe’s and a tree fell right where I was parked. So someone was on my side today,” said Scott Kirby.

It’s been there forever. It’s probably 40 or 50 years old. I hate to cut down but I guess I will now.

Street crews from the city of Yukon used heavy equipment to clear large trees from blocking roads, but as the temps stayed at freezing and rain continued to fall more trees ended up on the ground. And the threat of downed power lines was ever present.

At one point, OG&E was reported 37,000 customers were without power in the area and there was no word when it would be restored.
