Stillwater Medical Center Won't Bill Homecoming Parade Victims

Stillwater Medical Center will not be sending a bill to any of the victims of the October 24th homecoming parade crash. The goal is to relieve the patients of the undo stress and financial burden it may cause.

The crash killed four and injured dozens more including 43 who were seen in the ER or admitted to SMC for their injuries.

 “We know this has been a very difficult time for our patients and our community,” said Jerry Moeller, CEO.  “We wanted to do our best to ease the minds of the victims from the tragic event.”

Patients will not receive a bill or be liable for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred that day. This includes the inpatient stays following the accident as well. The sum of those expenses is more than $205,000.

“We will file a claim though the automobile claims process and accept any liability funds available as payment in full,” Moeller said.

He explain that for those patients who require subsequent visits or service, such as rehabilitation, Stillwater Medical Center will work with each patient individually to either file health insurance or work to assist them through their financial assistance program.

“We have a very generous financial assistance policy for those patients requiring further treatment as a result of the accident,” said Moeller.  “We will do all we can to make the process as smooth and stress free as possible.”
