Another significant earthquake rattled residents in Alfalfa County on Monday.

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 3:17 p.m., six miles northeast of Cherokee, Okla., or about 101 miles to the north northwest of the OKC metro, at a depth of three miles. This one shook in virtually the same area as the 4.7 and 4.6 magnitude quakes from last week.

Several News 9 viewers reported feeling the earthquake at places all around the state. The 4.4 temblor was followed shortly by a 3.5 magnitude aftershock at 3:36 p.m.. The aftershock was recorded five miles northeast of Cherokee, also at a depth of three miles.

Another 3.5-magnitude earthquake was reported in the area at 6:54 p.m. Its epicenter was about five miles northeast of Cherokee, 36 miles northwest of Enid and 102 miles north, northwest of Oklahoma City. It was about three miles deep.

So far, no damage or injuries have been reported.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes at magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely with quakes at magnitudes of 4.0 and higher.
