The backdrop of an international investigation into terror attacks last week that killed 129 people in Paris, France, has some Oklahomans worried about their safety here.

University of Central Oklahoma President Don Betz specialized in Middle East affairs while working for the United Nations for more than 20 years.

He said Oklahomans should go about their daily lives as normal, because that’s exactly what terrorist groups don’t want.

“The win for a terrorist is that your life is different, and they forced you to change it. How do we win? By not giving in to that, and the way to do that is be incredibly vigilant,” he said Tuesday afternoon.

Betz sent a note out to UCO campus-wide Tuesday.

The last thing he wrote was this, “Together we remain strong, and free of fear.”
