Cowboys Cruise Past UT Martin In Season Opener

Playing in his 100th career game, senior Phil Forte scored 24 points and Oklahoma State opened its season with a dominating 91-57 win over UT Martin on Friday night.

Chris Olivier had 14 points for Oklahoma State in his debut and Leyton Hammonds added 10. Guard Jeff Newberry had seven points, eight rebounds and four blocks. The Cowboys made 33 of 59 field goals (56 percent) and held UT Martin to 38 percent shooting.

Oklahoma outscored UT Martin 51-26 in the second half. Forte scored eight straight points during the Cowboys' 16-2 run midway through the second half to pull away.

Jacolby Mobley scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers, for UT Martin. Twymond Howard had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Cowboys will return to action on Monday, Nov. 16 when Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to Gallagher-Iba Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

    Trae Young scored 48 points, but missed a deep 3 at the buzzer in overtime as No. 4 Oklahoma fell to Oklahoma State 83-81 on Saturday. Jeffrey Carroll had 23 points and 13 rebounds and Kendall Smith added 20 points for Oklahoma State. Smith's 3 with 8 seconds left in regulation tied it at 73. The Cowboys went on to post their first win over a Top 10 team for first-year coach Mike Boynton.
