An Oklahoma City man was arrested after a domestic incident escalated to a stabbing at an apartment complex on the northwest side of the metro early Friday morning.

Police responded to reports of the stabbing just before 2 a.m. Officers found the victim, with the person who reported the crime, near the parking lot of a store in the 2300 block of W. Memorial Rd.

The victim told police he had been stabbed by his boyfriend inside their apartment. Police noted that the victim had more than one stab wound and was bleeding heavily. He was transported to a local hospital in non-life threatening condition.

The officers then went to the apartment complex where they met the suspect, 27-year-old Joshua Chambers. Inside the apartment the officers saw blood throughout the apartment, as well as on Chambers’ hands and clothing.

Chambers agreed to talk with police and said he had been in a relationship with the victim for four or five years. Chambers told police that he and the victim started arguing earlier in the night and it continued to escalate.

Chambers also told police that the victim was “very abusive and had “anger issues”. He also said he has filed assault charges against the victim in the past.

At one point during the argument, Chambers told police the victim took a cooking pot full of beans and hit him over the head with it. The two then fell to the floor and wrestled around, when Chambers said he grabbed a butcher knife to defend himself.

According to Chambers, as the struggle continued the victim was stabbed at least twice around the collarbone. Chambers told police he didn’t know if he was jabbing with the knife or if the wounds were incidental because of the adrenaline of the moment.

Also during the struggle, Chambers said the victim managed to get the knife and slashed Chambers hand. It was soon after that the victim and Chambers noticed the injuries and stopped fighting. The victim called a friend and left the apartment on foot to where he originally met with police.

Chambers was then arrested and taken to the Oklahoma County Jail on one count of Domestic Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
