The 2015 Oklahoma High School playoffs kick off on Friday and the Jenks Trojans will begin their quest for a fourth-straight title.

But, there are some interesting contenders in the 6A-1 bracket, beginning with top-seed Broken Arrow. The Tigers (9-1) host Mustang (7-3) in a rematch of last year’s first round pairing when the Broncos won 22-19. Broken Arrow rides a seven-game win streak including a road game at Jenks. Mustang may be in for a wild ride but the Broncos and quarterback Chandler Garrett have enough firepower to hang with anyone.

Southmoore (9-1) versus Edmond Santa Fe (6-4) pairs two evenly matched teams that played a close one back on Sept. 18th. The Sabercats won that contest 34-31 but aside from a 52-24 loss to Union, only Norman North has played Southmoore as close as the Wolves did that game. Take away the trip to Jenks and Santa Fe’s other three losses come at a combined 8 points.

On the other side of the bracket sits the top-seeded Union Redskins (8-2) who host Putnam City (5-5). The Pirates will need some kind of miracle to knock off last year’s runner-up, as the Redskins have scored at will in district play, averaging 50.2 points per game. Putnam City is coming off a 60-point outing at Westmoore but the Pirate defense has been its downfall this year.

Jenks (9-1) versus Norman North (7-3) is the final first round matchup. The two haven’t met since the 2012 championship game – a 55-20 Trojan win – but they have a pair of common opponents this season. Jenks handled both Union and Westmoore while the Timberwolves lost to Union and barely beat Westmoore. It will be a tall task for even Norman North’s excellent offense to score on the stingy Trojan defense that allows just 16.1 points per game.
