We’ve got an uplifting update about a Lexington woman who’s been battling stage IV colon cancer.

Amanda Meyer, 33, gave birth to a five-pound 12 ounce baby girl Wednesday night at Integris Baptist Medical Center.

Doctors diagnosed Meyer with her cancer last May, just a few weeks after she learned she was pregnant. She said doctors advised her to terminate the pregnancy out of concerns about what chemotherapy treatments would do to her baby in the womb. Meyer and her husband Ryan insisted on seeing the pregnancy through.

They’ve named their “Miracle Baby” Ahna Marie Meyer.

“This little girl has brought so much joy to our life.  Anytime I would have an emotional day, I’d feel her kick and just letting me know it was going to be okay, and here she is and it’s fantastic,” said Amanda.

Ahna Meyer is a healthy baby, even though her mother went through eight chemotherapy sessions and two surgeries during her pregnancy.

Amanda urges even young people to get screened for colon cancer, if they experience lingering stomach or lower abdomen discomfort.
