NORMAN, Oklahoma -

The family of Corey Maxwell is still in shock at the brutal nature of the crime. Now they just want to know who did it and why.

“He was a loving nephew, son, grandson, he adored his grandma and grandpa,” said Darlene Ponstein, Corey’s Aunt.

Ponstein likes to remember the happy times she spent with him during the time he was growing up. She said the sweet little boy with the big brown eyes was always happy and helpful.

“That's what I admired about him, is that he would go out and he would help people,” said Ponstein.

But she admitted as an adult, Corey made some bad choices which landed him in jail, and then later in prison. She said since he had been released, he'd been trying to make things right.

“You know he's got two boys that he was getting to know again, to be there for them,” said Ponstein. “And he was trying to get his life together. And it was just ripped away, you know ripped away from all of us.”

Cory's remains were found by OSBI investigators last week, inside a trash dump in the small town of Tribbey. Authorities received a tip he had been murdered and could be found there. And when they did, the family couldn't believe it.

“It was devastating,” said Ponstein. “I mean he'd been gone for over a month, and it wasn't a day that would go by that he didn't contact his mom. When he didn't call and didn't call, you know, we know something possibly was up. But we just didn't know.”

Now all the family wants is closure.

“We want answers and we want to be able to take him and lay him to rest,” said Ponstein.

Both the OSBI and the Cleveland County DA told News 9 the investigation is ongoing, and that they are still interviewing people in this case. But the DA said they are looking at two people who are already in jail on other charges in connection with this crime.
