OKLAHOMA CITY -

Among the 46 people injured in Stillwater Saturday was the niece of Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett.

Cornett said his niece Kelly Howell Murphy was seriously injured when police say 25-year-old Adacia Chambers plowed into the crowd with a car.

Cornett said both of his niece’s legs were broken, and she underwent emergency surgery later Saturday at a hospital in Tulsa.

“We’re grateful for the fact that people seem to have a plan of action in place, the way they dispersed the most critically injured to the best medical centers in the state gives me a little bit of reassurance that we do a very good job of reacting to large-scale unplanned emergencies,” he said from the Mayor’s Office Monday afternoon.

Cornett said doctors have told him his niece could make a full-recovery, but it will take months.

Murphy works for OSU. Cornett said she was at the parade Saturday to support her daughter, who rode on her elementary school’s float in Saturday’s parade. Murphy’s daughter was not hurt.
