OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma City Zoo says 15-year-old male Rothschild’s Giraffe Bogy died Saturday evening.

Bogy had been under medical supervision for more than a year due to recurring gastrointestinal issues. A necropsy is being performed to determine the cause of Bogy’s death.

The median life expectancy of a Rothschild’s giraffe is 15 to 16 years of age.

Other giraffe herd members at OKC Zoo includes Bogy’s mom Ursula, 30, Noel, 27, Ellie, 15, and his offspring Julu, 4-months old.

The zoo says the giraffe feeding platform will be open as weather permits and is beneficial to the animals to keep them in a normal routine.
