LINCOLN COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for a police impersonator.

A teenager said he tried to get inside her home.

The Lincoln County sheriff said this man first identified himself as a police officer and then showed a fake badge.

The teenager who answered the door got suspicious when he told her he needed to check inside.

“I have a question about a police officer coming to my house during the day.”

A grandmother called 911 after her 17-year-old granddaughter told her a police officer stopped by their home Thursday.

A man dressed as an officer wearing grey pants, a blue shirt complete with a vest and a badge told her he was responding to a disturbance call.

“He said that he got a report from my house that someone heard windows breaking and someone screaming,” said the grandmother.

And then he asked if he could come inside to take a look.

“Told him there wasn’t any problems there. There wasn’t no reason for him to come in,” said Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty. “She had several pet bull dogs that would keep her safe, and she returned back inside the house.”

But the impersonator didn't immediately leave.

She watched him walk around his car for several minutes and said at one point tried to crawl over their gate.

“Then he met the pet bull dogs,” said Sheriff Dougherty. “So he retreated back to his car and left.”

“It didn’t say Lincoln County, it didn’t say sheriff’s department, it said police and that was it,” said the grandmother.

Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said all of their cars are marked and officers always have their credentials including, badges that clearly identifies who they are.

If you have any information on this impersonator, call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
