Several law enforcement agencies teamed up overnight to capture a miniature horse, which was running loose in downtown Oklahoma City. But it took the help of the Stockyards Cowboys to eventually get it to safety.

According to police, 911 calls started to come in around 12:30 a.m. Friday. Several people called to say a miniature horse was loose near I-40 and Western. Eventually, Oklahoma City police officers used their cars to corral the animal in a field near S.W. 3rd and Walker.

Animal Control was also involved in the attempts to capture the animal. It managed to cross a few roads and did not get hit by any cars.

The biggest concern was to get it into custody before the morning rush hour.

“Many times I was ready to let it go and walk away, because we were doing more damage than good, but fortunately we were able to get it into custody,” said Lt. David Wegner of OKCPD.

It’s still unclear how the animal got loose or who it belongs to. Jay Lewis with the Oklahoma National Stockyards company said it will feed the animal and care for it until the rightful owner comes to claim it.
