Dean's Blog: Shelby Shepard Interviews Her Bro Sterling

Shelby Shepard is a 19-year old Broadcast Journalism major at OU and an intern for us at News9 Sports. Attached is her first interview that was conducted Monday at the weekly press luncheon for Bob Stoops and selected players.

Shelby interviewed big brother Sterling, OU’s 22-year old senior star receiver. The Shepard’s are an unusually close-knit family. Most of you remember that their father Derrick tragically died when Sterling when the kids were young and that Bob Stoops – who had Derrick coaching on his OU staff – stepped in as a mentor-like figure and helped the Shepards deal with the loss.

Cheri Shepard is the mother and 25-year old Ashleigh is the big sis. The kids all thrived at Heritage Hall High School in OKC and carry themselves in a sweet, loving manner.

It’s only fair to say that the interview was a spontaneous decision on my part and Shelby had no time to prepare and has only been with us a few weeks. So this should not be judged as a piece of pure journalism and more of a little sis who loves big brother having a short conversation with our cameras rolling!
