Parents who have experienced the loss of a child gathered Saturday at Martin Nature Park for a special photo shoot.

The mothers posed together for a picture.

“It’s a pain that doesn’t go away. You learn to live with it. You learn to go on and it becomes the new normal for you, but everyday it’s just as painful as the day it happened. So it’s nice to have other mothers who you can lean on,” said Teresa Byrd.

Byrd lost her son in 1999 after complications during an open heart surgery. He was 17 months old.

About 40 women took part in this photo shoot to show their unity, many of them meeting for the first time. Byrd hopes the gathering allowed mothers the chance to meet people they can talk to about their loss.

The photographer said people as far as New York were interested.
