MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -

The Midwest City Fraternal Order of Police and the Firefighter's Association called for the mayor and city manager to step down.

The issue was front and center at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

The labor unions allege mismanagement of taxpayer funds meant for public safety.

The mayor and city manager denied the allegations.

"I deeply regret that the action by the unions was taken. Both the mayor and I have been long-tenured employees with the city," Midwest City city manager Guy Henson said.

Henson also said they're doing their best to ensure safety isn't compromised as the city faces some financial challenges.
