An ailing Vietnam War hero who spent much of his life “paying it forward” is now getting a little payback.

Jim Yearout and his wife Katie have lived in a home close to Harrah High School for nearly 40 years.

Jim was awarded numerous medals after serving as a platoon leader of an elite group of marines and soldiers during the Vietnam War. He also once was a volunteer assistant coach on the Harrah Panthers football team.

However, Jim recently underwent a serious open-heart surgery procedure, and his wife Katie is being treated for cancer.

The couples’ home has a large front and backyard, and they have been unable to take care of it recently.

However, three Harrah High School football players recently volunteered to mow and take care of the Yearouts' yard.

Harrah head football coach Phil Webb said he’s proud of his players.

“Absolutely, and you know in our generation the young generation I think has lost sight of that, and at some point I think that’s why athletics are so important, it’s the last hold of being able to discipline kids in the right way, and be able to teach them the right things,” he said.
