Officer-Involved Shooting Reported In Lawton

LAWTON, Oklahoma -

An officer-involved shooting was reported Monday afternoon in Lawton, police said.

About 4:50 p.m., officers were called to the area of SW Sheridan Road and I Avenue. Callers told police a black man was waving a handgun at passing motorists, Lawton police Capt. Craig Akard said.

An officer shot the man after a brief encounter. The man was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital where he died, Akard said.

The names of the man and police officer were not released. 

The officer was placed on administrative leave.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting death.
