Instant Analysis: Cowboys Escape Mountaineers In OT

Posted: Updated:
MORGANTOWN, West Virginia -

Oklahoma State (6-0, 3-0) came away with a huge 33-26 win over West Virginia (3-2, 0-2) on Saturday night in Morgantown. Here's some instant analysis, stick around for the full recap.

What went well

Things started beautifully for OSU. Glenn Spencer’s defense forced three first-quarter turnovers which resulted in a 17-2 lead. We all knew West Virginia would rally, but it was OSU’s early advantage that gave the Pokes a shot to hang on and win. Most importantly though, it was a win. Any time you can win a conference road game in a tough environment is a good thing. OSU also got bowl eligible.

What didn’t

Mason Rudolph’s road woes continued on Saturday. Rudolph has now thrown for two touchdowns to five interceptions in three road games this season. The OSU kicking game also failed to convert an extra point for the fourth time in six games. That has to be corrected. In addition, OSU’s run game continues to stink. Rennie Childs gained 34 yards, while Chris Carson carried 14 times for just 21 yards. The blocking just isn’t there.

Crazy day in the Big 12

Earlier in the day, OU was stunned by Texas down at the Cotton Bowl. TCU survived a huge deficit to win at Kansas State, while Baylor smoked Kansas, 66-7. OK, that last one wasn’t surprising.

Game ball

Emmanuel Ogbah was stellar. The future pro forced a pair of fumbles and scored a touchdown. He was also credited with half a sack.

What’s next

Although they certainly don’t need it, OSU gets a bye week to prepare for Kansas (0-5).
