There are heavy hearts all over Drumright after Fire Chief Wade Guyer lost his battle with cancer. He'd been with the fire department for 20 years.

News On 6 interviewed him a few years ago when wildfires kept small departments like Drumright's working night and day for nearly a week keeping people safe. Chief Guyer told us then it's about neighbor helping neighbor.

"We band together, when the call goes out everybody comes together and we all go fight this fire as one," he said.

His fellow firefighters say that's the kind of person he was - he gave his heart and soul to the community. The Department posted on its Facebook page, "Rest easy Chief, we'll take it from here."

Kim said she sends her heartfelt thanks for everything everyone has done over the past several months.  The thoughts and prayers and support now have been overwhelming.

On her Facebook page, Kim wrote:

I have so much to say, but I don't know where to start.
So I guess I will start by saying thank you all for your kind words, love, and thoughts.
I also want to say how much Lorne Wade loved his department, his brothers, and this town. He served proudly. As weird as this sounds the department came first, and then his family. I wouldn't of changed that for anything, that's what made him who he was. That's the man I fell in Love with.
The kids and I are well, and we will make through. You guys have been everything to us, thank you again for everything.

Kim said she sends her heartfelt thanks for everything everyone has done over the past several months.  The thoughts and prayers and support now have been overwhelming, she said.

Wade's father, L.E Guyer gave a statement about his appreciation for the support as well:

“I cannot begin to tell you what a loss this is to the family and I think the City of Drumright. Also words cannot express the thanks we have for all the support the family has received from everyone in this area. It has been outstanding! Thank you everyone so much.” – L.E. Guyer

Wade's in-laws, Mr and Mrs Elmer Ledgerwood, wrote they believe Lorne Wade fought his fight and won his battle. They quoted 2 Timothy 4:7:  "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. That sums up Wade."

Services for Wade Guyer will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Organizers say in lieu of flowers, people can make donations to Turn Drumright Pink c/o Turn Tulsa Pink, 4645 South Vandalia Avenue, Tulsa OK, 74135.
