After years of back and forth, trials, convictions, and appeals the day of execution for Richard Glossip arrived on Wednesday.

Glossip was convicted of being the mastermind behind the 1997 killing of motel owner Barry Van Treese. The man responsible for the murder, Justin Sneed, told police Glossip put him up to the crime.

Glossip has always maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings and even garnered national and international support from anti-death penalty advocates, celebrities and thousands of citizens. Even Pope Francis reached out to Gov. Mary Fallin and asked for commutation for Glossip.

The case has played out not only in the legal realm, but in the court of public opinion; with people on both sides fervently arguing their view on the matter.

Here are just some of those comments:

USA can never credibly criticise Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, etc. when its own judicial system is such a disgrace. #RichardGlossip

No one deserves mercy, and yet God freely offers it to all of us. May we remember to show it to one another. #RichardGlossip @GovMaryFallin

I'm curious what Justin Sneed is doing right now in his medium security prison. Not sure how he can live with himself. #RichardGlossip

Lord forgive us if #RichardGlossip dies not because he is guilty, but because he is poor.

@helenprejean it's horrifying to live in a country where one testimony and no physical evidence can get you executed #richardglossip

Was going to curse horribly, but my faith is restored by #USSupremeCourt over #RichardGlossip. Thank you to all that stood for what's right.

The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a stay of execution for #RichardGlossip. At this time, please keep Richard in your thoughts and prayers.

By the "execution is murder" logic, arrests and incarceration are kidnapping. Progressives have no perspective. #Glossip

Lot's of people supporting #RichardGlossip, but yet to see anyone support the victim. Amazing at what people support these days.
