OKLAHOMA CITY -

A removal date for the now controversial monument on Capitol grounds is set.

Back in June, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled the Ten Commandments monument displayed on state grounds violates the state Constitution.

The monument will remain on state grounds until October 12, but where it's going next has yet to be determined.

It came down to a 7-1 vote during special meeting Tuesday morning at the state Capitol.

The Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission's authorized the Office of Management and Enterprise Services to follow a court order and remove of the Ten Commandment monument from state grounds.

But before it comes down, OMES will contact the monument's builder to determine the best way to remove the nearly one ton piece of granite from the ground.

Public comment was not allowed but that didn't stop several outbursts concerning the way the special meeting was conducted particularly a closed door executive session.

“My concern is the rule of law, my concern is that actions are being taken that are outside the proper procedure,” said Richard Engle, a concerned citizen. “It just doesn't fit the bill of the intent of the law regarding open meetings”.

An open meeting expert News 9 spoke with agrees since the Oklahoma Supreme Court already ruled for the monument's removal.

Several groups have spoken up expressing their interest in taking the monument. Its new home could be decided at another meeting in October.
