Kevin Durant has joined the Players’ Tribune as deputy publisher, the company announced on Thursday. The Players’ Tribune was founded by former New York Yankee Derek Jeter and is a digital media platform for athletes to share stories and content from their perspective.

“I’m pleased to welcome the newest member of The Players’ Tribune team, Kevin Durant,” said Jeter. “In just eight years, Kevin has not only become a dominant force on the court but an important voice off it. We share the belief that athletes need a place to tell their stories their way. I’m thrilled that he’ll be helping me build that place.”

“I’m thrilled that Derek has asked me to join him as deputy publisher on The Players’ Tribune,” Durant said. “I look up to Derek, and I look forward to working with him to build a place where we athletes can have our say and feel safe that nothing will be distorted. I think that in the end, if fans get the chance to find out who we really are as people, we’ll all feel a lot better about the games we love.”

Entering the final season on his contract with Oklahoma City, Durant will reap more media attention than ever. His union with The Players’ Tribune allows him to control his thoughts on free agency. Or maybe Durant just wants to further his brand? Maybe it’s just cathartic. He’s always been an active social media contributor.

“Derek and Kevin in a lot of ways are cut from the same cloth,” said Jaymee Messler, president of The Players’ Tribune. “We will all work together to develop and improve the platform. As we close out our first year, Kevin’s forward-thinking business mindset, popularity, and global presence will help us sustain our forward momentum and will make him a meaningful asset to our team.”
