Rain, Storms Bring Cooler Weather To Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

We’ll have to dodge some showers and thunderstorms Friday evening as a cold front heads our way.

Not everyone looks to receive rain here Friday night, but those who do could see some the storms with some gusty winds and lightning. So anyone out and about Friday evening, maybe at a high school football game, will need to watch out for lightning and stay weather aware.

If you don’t already have the News9 app then I would highly suggest you download so you can remain plugged in. Overnight the cold front will sweep through the area lowering our rain chances as north winds increase 15-25mph. These north winds will start to bring in drier and cooler by the time we wake up on Saturday morning with lows in the 50s and 60s.

Now looking ahead into the weekend we’re looking at some nice weather with some comfortable humidity and temperatures. Still expecting plenty of clouds around for Saturday morning, but they’ll decrease and move south through the day. So by afternoon we can expect mostly to partly sunny skies with a north breeze and highs in the 70s to low 80s south.

Any rain chances will be early in the day and mainly across far southern Oklahoma. So get outside and enjoy the comfortable maybe at the OU or OSU game and if you don’t have tickets check out the News 9 booth at the State Fair.

Saturday night into Sunday another wave of energy heads our way with another chance of rain and storms but this system is looking fairly weak. The best chance of seeing rain will be across southern Oklahoma but even across the metro could see a few showers and thunderstorms. By afternoon we’ll likely start to clear things out with temperatures remaining very comfortable in the 70s and 80s.

Heading into next week plenty of sunshine is in the forecast with temperatures starting to climb above normal in the upper 80s.
