Energy FC Wins, Clinches Home Game In First Round Of Playoffs

Posted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -

Daniel Gonzalez scored his first career goal in the 41st minute and Energy FC held off Arizona United for a 1-0 win in the final regular season match. The win assured the team of a top-4 finish in the Western Conference and clinched at least one home match in the upcoming USL playoffs.

Energy FC will host a match at historic Taft Stadium on either Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. or Sunday, October 4 at 6 p.m. Playoff seeding will be determined and announced following the completion of all league matches.

Daniel Gonzalez would provide all the offense for Energy FC when he headed in a lob by Chuy Sanchez in the 41st minute of play. Goaltender Evan Newton made eight saves for his 10th clean sheet of the season.

The top six teams in each conference make the postseason. The first round sees the #3 seed host the #6 seed and the #4 seed host the #5 seed.  Winners of the first-round matches move on to face the #1 and #2 seeds. The #1 seed plays the lowest remaining seed.
