OKLAHOMA CITY -

Richard Glossip says all he wanted was more time to prove he’s innocent.  Wednesday, the US Court of Criminal Appeals gave him two more weeks.

“I just wanted people to listen and now people are freakin’ listening,” Glossip told his family shortly after the stay was granted.  His first call was to his niece and two daughters.

“I’m shocked, I’m happy as can be.  And hopefully they get it the rest of the way,” said Glossip in the phone conversation.  “This is a good sign though.”

It happened just hours before Glossip's family was caravaning down to McAlester to wait for the execution.

“I was trying not to cry, I was trying to stay positive,” recalled his daughter Christina Glossip-Hodge.

“I was just hoping for the best and I just kept saying it’s not over yet until they say it’s over,” said Erika

Richard Glossip was meeting with his attorney's when he learned of the stay.

“I was jumping up and down and acting like a crazy man,” he said.  “We slapped each other five, but had to do it through the window.”

The reprieve is temporary however.   Attorney General Scott Pruitt says he's confident the court of appeals won't find anything worthy to overturn the decision of two juries and filed a 104 page response laying out the case against Glossip.

But Glossip says he's not asking for the court to overturn his sentence.  He just wants a new trial.

“I think if they look at it fairly, they’ve got to see the truth.  It’s plain as day.”
