McALESTER, Oklahoma -

Wednesday afternoon, Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip is set to be executed.

Seventeen years ago he was sentenced to death for murder. Since then his case has gained international attention.

Richard Glossip still stands to be executed at 3 p.m. Wednesday. But over 270,000 people worldwide have called for a 60-day stay.

"Every bit of evidence that we have gotten so far is exculpatory for Richard Glossip. There's not one thing that points in the other direction," said Sister Helen Prejean, Anti-death penalty advocate.

There are pieces of the puzzle no one can deny.  Motel maintenance man Justin Sneed pleaded guilty to beating motel owner Barry Van Treese to death in 1997. But Sneed said he didn't act alone.

Sneed told authorities that Glossip, the motel manager, convinced Sneed to murder Van Treese, even offering money.

Glossip maintained his innocence but was found guilty of first-degree murder. A jury of 12 ruled Glossip planned Van Treese's murder, sentencing Glossip to death.

Later, Glossip won his appeal. His first conviction was thrown out, another chance to prove his innocence. But still a second jury of 12 upheld Glossip's conviction, putting him back on death row.

In total, Glossip's case has been through four separate levels of court, including the United States Supreme Court.

“There is no doubt in my mind this is a cleanly prosecuted case, they argued everything they had and what they presented to jury," Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said.

Now, a sudden surge of supporters said what's set to take place Wednesday is a mistake, and that the state of Oklahoma is about to execute an innocent man.

Others said Glossip has had his days in court. He's had a chance to appeal his death, unlike his victim. And justice must be served.

Tuesday, Glossip's attorneys officially filed a request for stay in the courts A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections said, "The last order from the court was to go forward with the execution."
