Norman Animal Welfare officers rescued 65 dogs from a home on Friday, September 11.

Animal Welfare officials said they received an anonymous tip of a large number of dogs inside a home in southeast Norman. When officers arrived, they knocked on the door but did not receive a response.

Without entering the home, the officers said they could tell that a large population of adult dogs and puppies were inside the home, so they secured the home and requested a search warrant.

The resident reportedly returned home and cooperated with the investigation. Officers served the search warrant and seized 65 dogs from the home. Of the total dogs seized, approximately 22 are puppies ranging from two-days-old to about one-week-old. Additionally, two of the adult dogs are pregnant and could deliver their litters at any time.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The breeds involved in this case are Miniature Poodle, Standard Poodle, Toy Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Pekingese, Chihuahua, and Cavalier Spaniel.

Norman Animal Welfare is now working to evaluate the animals and make them available for adoption. At this time, officers believe all 65 dogs are adoptable. Yet, official said this unexpected and large influx of dogs will prove challenging for the shelter’s adoption program.

If anyone is interested in adopting an animal, the Norman Animal Shelter is waving the adoption fee of $60 on the animals currently being housed at the shelter to make room for this new group of dogs.
