STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

A woman was shot in the back Wednesday morning along a road in Stillwater, police reported.

About 10 a.m., a woman, 21, and her friend were on the bike path adjacent to Lakeview Road near Boomer Lake when they heard a sharp noise, Stillwater police Capt. Kyle Gibbs said.

The woman felt something hit her back and started bleeding.

The woman was taken to Stillwater Medical Center for treatment where a small caliber bullet was removed from her back. The woman has since been released from the hospital.

Investigators think the shot came from a pickup that drove away from the scene after the shooting. The vehicle was described as a '90s model baby blue Chevrolet or GMC extended cab pickup with chrome trim, Gibbs said.

Anyone with information about this incident or the pickup is asked to call the Stillwater police at (405) 372-4171.
