An animal cruelty complaint in Valley Brook sent police out to investigate Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Darren Johnson and News 9 found more than 20 farm animals milling around the backyard and side yard of the home on the corner of SE 59 Drive and Jack’s Avenue.

The animals ranged from chickens and roosters, to turkeys and ducks. A large goat was chained to a pole, and didn’t appear to have access to water.

What water and food bowls News 9 did see scattered around the fenced-in yard looked a lot closer to empty than to full.

Johnson said Valley Brook has no ordinance that regulates the number of farm animals property owners can have.

“We will be making contact with the homeowner, to make sure that they are providing adequate food and water and shelter for the animals,” he said.

No one answered the front door of the home when News 9 knocked Tuesday afternoon.
