TULSA, Oklahoma -

It's the opening weekend for football, and the first game for the University of Tulsa under new head coach Philip Montgomery. The Hurricane meets Florida Atlantic in the season opener.

Tulsa opened the season last year with a 38-31 double-overtime win over Tulane. And the new head coach hopes to repeat that early success on Saturday.

There are some major construction projects people need to be aware of before they head to Chapman Stadium for the tailgate.

"Everybody wants to get off to that good start," Montgomery said. "Half of them will, half of them won't.

"I think for our football team, just early momentum, capturing that, being able to hold on to it, give them success early. And they've talked about, 'coach all we want to do is win,' and we've worked that way.  On the flip side of it, can't talk about it now - it's time to do it."

TU started its season at 2:30 p.m., but Hurricane Alley opened for tailgating at 11 a.m.  A group of former TU football players were some of the first tailgaters to hit Hurricane Alley. The group prepared weeks ahead of Saturday's game.

Jake Alexander and Alec Henry wanted to get their barbeque pit fired up and tables set before the crowds came.

"Just a bunch of passionate fans out here having a good time," Henry said.

"There's a lot of uncertainty, but it's good uncertainty - because you don't know what to expect," said Jake Alexander. "New coach, completely new staff, new outlook on it; it's exciting."

Fans need to be aware of the ongoing construction on Interstate 244, that's closed a lot of exit ramps including the westbound Interstate 44 exit to Yale and Delaware.

The eastbound exit to both those streets is open.
