This Labor Day weekend law enforcement officers in Tulsa County and across Oklahoma are stepping up their fight to end DUI. They call the effort ENDUI.

They held a news conference Thursday morning to talk about plans for sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols during the holiday weekend.

Also at the news conference was a Tulsa man, Doc Livingston, whose only child is serving 40 years in prison for killing another man while driving drunk.

Livingston says it was a terrible loss for his family and the family of the person his son killed. He said he lives with the results of his son's actions every day and doesn't want anyone else to go through the grief and shame he did.

Tulsa County DA Steve Kunzweiler says impaired drivers better think twice before getting behind the wheel, because officers will have a zero tolerance policy.

"I'd rather them deal with the drug dealers, I'd rather them deal with the rapists, I'd rather them deal with the people who are shooting up other people.  They don't need to be dealing with people who can't make the decision to get behind the wheel when they're under the influence," said Steve Kunzweiler.

Last year, 163 people died in Oklahoma in alcohol-related crashes.

AAA is offering its Tipsy Tow service from Friday evening until early Tuesday morning. For more information call 1-800-AAA-HELP
