An investigation is underway following the death of a 1-year-old boy.

He somehow died while in a car seat, but the circumstances are unclear. It happened Monday at the Travelodge in Norman.

"The police kept going in and out, and I saw them carrying something out,” Mike Cross said. "It was a baby."

A little boy just more than 1 year old was carried out of room 218. His family was staying at the hotel when he stopped breathing.

“As a result of some sort of misfortune involving a car seat,” Norman police Capt. Tom Easley said.

He somehow became entangled in the child restraint and was strangled. The car seat was not inside a vehicle. It was inside the room.

"It came in initially as a medical call,” Easley said.

Once first responders got there, they called police.

"We are investigating the matter, collecting all the facts,” Easley said. “Once we have everything pieced together, we will present it to prosecutors and see if we have a crime."

Other children in the hotel room were placed in DHS custody.

No one has been arrested.
