A burglary suspect is dead and another on the loose, after police said the victim fired shots at the two.
It happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Potomac House Apartments near S.W. 59th and May. Crime Scene tape runs all the way through the main building and through the parking lot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that 24-year-old Robert McEarley was inside of his apartment when he heard a knock at the door. When he tried to see who was there, he noticed that the suspects were covering the peephole.
Police said the suspects shouted “Police” and then forced their way into the apartment. During the fight, one of the suspects was shot and killed. The second suspect ran away from the scene.
We've watched as investigators gather evidence and whatever clues they can to get a better idea who they're looking for.
A public information officer believes the situation falls under the "Make My Day" law.
We are trying to get a better suspect description from police, but at this point they're not releasing more information. They have said there's no active search for the suspect still going on.
Police have not released the name of the suspect who was killed.
