OKLAHOMA CITY -

Richard Glossip is scheduled to be executed on September 16.

This week, the Supreme Court denied to take up Glossip's case, but he and his supporters are not giving up.

Richard Glossip was convicted of masterminding the murder of Barry Van Treese. Although he didn't commit the actual murder, he was sentenced to death for his part in it. The man who killed Van Treese testified against Glossip in exchange for a lesser sentence.

It's that testimony and lack of physical evidence that led Sister Helen Prejean and actress Susan Sarandon to take up Glossip's cause. Monday they will appear on Dr. Phil.

The two women are trying to raise awareness for Glossip's case, hoping public outcry will be enough that Gov. Mary Fallin will grant Glossip a 60-day stay of execution so Glossip's attorney's have the time to file new evidence with the court.

Fallin however, maintains she doesn't intent to grant the stay. Glossip's case has already been through the appeals process and several courts upheld his conviction.

Fallin says we also need to remember Van Treese's family in all this. He had five children and wife. But Dr. Phil says the governor should halt the execution for them as well.

That Dr. Phil episode airs 3 p.m. on News 9 and at 4 p.m. on News On 6.
