Their mission has been to improve the lives of local veterans in need, but the local organization known as Veteran’s Corner appears to be imploding in front of our eyes.

Vietnam War veteran Dale Graham founded the organization 15 years ago.

Every Thursday morning at the Goldsby Community Center, Graham and other volunteers help veterans and their families fill out the necessary paperwork to claim Veterans Affairs benefits due to them.

The group is scheduled to move a few weeks into a brand new facility a half mile west of Riverwind Casino on Highway 9.

That building has been built from the ground up with more than a few hundred thousand dollars in donations.

Graham however will not make it to the opening.

Tuesday, he called for the resignations of all nine members of the nonprofit’s board of directors, including himself.

He said he dropped financial documents off Tuesday afternoon at the state Attorney General’s Office. He wants them to conduct an audit.

“I have asked that an independent board made up of our civic leaders, our community leaders, to oversee everything that we do,” he said, outside the VA Hospital Tuesday afternoon. “It’s kind of hard if you have the fox guarding the hen house.”

Veteran’s Corner board president Alfred Hollis responded.

“You go through disagreements, we’re moving forward," Hollis said. "I don’t have a response, because I don’t know what he’s trying to say or what he’s trying to do.”
