A special education teacher from Norman High School has been named Oklahoma's best teacher.
Tuesday morning, State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said it was a very close competition, but Shawn Sheehan topped the other 11 candidates to become the 2016 Teacher of The Year.
Sheehan, 29, has been teaching for five years. He teaches math to teenagers with learning disabilities.
“I'm excited, I’m ecstatic and I’m eager, eager to shine a spotlight on the educative profession. I’m glad to represent Oklahoma teachers,” Sheehan said.
Sheehan is also Norman Public Schools' teacher of the year.
