PHOENIX, Arizona -

A puppy trapped in a sewage pipe for at least 10 hours was rescued from a home where authorities were serving a drug-related search warrant, CBS affiliate KPHO reported.

The station reports that when Phoenix police officers arrived at the home Thursday afternoon to serve the warrant, they found two dead puppies, an adult dog and a one- or two-week-old puppy stuck in a 3-inch drain pipe.

According to Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman Bretta Nelson, a plumbing company used a small camera to locate the puppy 23 feet from the pipe's opening.

The puppy, apparently a pit bull terrier mix, was finally pulled out of the pipe by rescuers at about 10:30 p.m, the station reported.

"In my five years at AHS, this is the longest rescue I have heard of and we respond to more than 10,000 cases per year," Nelson said.

The puppy was taken to an emergency animal clinic and then will be transported to Arizona Humane Society's Second Chance Animal Hospital on Friday.
