Reno Outpaces Dodgers, Evens Series

Posted: Updated:

The Reno Aces scored runs in four of the first five innings on their way to a 9-3 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Aces (61-64) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed as they evened up their series, 1-1, against Oklahoma City (75-50) in front of a crowd of 6,395.

A RBI double by Nick Evans in the top of the first inning gave Reno a quick 1-0 lead. The Aces then loaded the bases with none out. Brandon Drury drew a bases-loaded walk and Matt Pagnozzi hit a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 Reno advantage.

The Aces went ahead, 4-0, in the top of the third inning when Todd Glaesmann scored on a wild pitch by Dodgers pitcher Mike Bolsinger.

In the top of the fourth inning, Nick Evans hit a sacrifice fly to right field to boost the Aces to a 5-0 advantage. A RBI double by Drury then put Reno ahead, 6-0.

The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Andy Wilkins doubled and advanced to third on a groundout by Jose Tabata. He then scored on a wild pitch by Reno pitcher A.J. Schugel.

A RBI single by Jordan Pacheco boosted the Aces to a 7-1 lead in the fifth inning. Danny Dorn drew a bases loaded walk and then Drury hit a RBI single to put Reno ahead, 9-1.

The Dodgers tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jose Peraza hit a RBI single to right field to cut Reno’s lead to 9-2.

A wild pitch by Reno pitcher R.J. Hively in the bottom of the ninth allowed Scott Schebler to score the Dodgers’ third run of the night and cut Reno’s lead to six runs.

Thursday marked the most runs allowed by the Dodgers in a game since a 9-0 loss in Memphis July 30.

Bolsinger (2-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits, issued five walks and struck out one over 2.2 innings.

Schugel (2-6) got the win for Reno, holding Oklahoma City to two runs and allowing six hits. He issued two walks and five strikeouts. Hively earned his first save of the season for the Aces.

The Dodgers continue their four-game series against Reno at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by FAA Credit Union, are scheduled to follow the game.
