How far would you go and how much would you spend to save your pet's life? A couple spared no expense to give their cat its 9th life.

Let that soak in for a second, tens of thousands of dollars for a cat. But many feel how can you put a price on the life of a beloved pet?

Because vets have found a way to perform transplants and it's pricey. Just ask Andre Gonciar and his wife who traveled from Romania to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital.

Their cat Oki has kidney failure and underwent a kidney transplant. The surgery alone cost more than $16,000.

Add airfare, hotels, medical tests and follow-up appointments the couple predicts they will spend $30,000 total. Another way to think about it, that money could have gone to a down payment on a house.

Vets say on average, cats live about another three years post-surgery. Gonciar admits some people think he is a little crazy to spend all that money his 12-year-old cat.

Now the healthy kidney came from a cat found in a shelter and instead of being euthanized the donor cat will now be adopted by the Gonciar family.
