Tacoma Takes Down Dodgers

The Tacoma Rainiers used a 3-2 win Tuesday to earn a series split against the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

The Tacoma Rainiers used a 3-2 win Tuesday to earn a series split against the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers (74-49) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning in front of a crowd of 3,876, but Tacoma tied the game in the fifth inning and took the lead for good in the sixth inning.

In the third inning, Oklahoma City’s Darwin Barney hit a one-out double to left field, then scored on a RBI single to center field by Darnell Sweeney for a 1-0 Dodgers advantage.

Tacoma (58-66) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Patrick Brady doubled and scored on a RBI groundout by Steve Baron to knot the score, 1-1.

The Rainiers scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead, scoring one run on a RBI single by Justin Ruggiano and adding another run when Jabari Blash hit into a fielder’s choice.

Jose Peraza led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, then stole second and third base before scoring on a RBI double to left field by Austin Barnes to cut Tacoma’s lead to 3-2.

Barnes went a game-best 3-for-4 with a RBI to account for half of the Dodgers’ hits. Tacoma outhit the Dodgers, 7-6.

Starting pitcher Roenis Elias (4-2) earned the win for the Rainiers, allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings. He issued one walk and struck out seven. Tony Zych earned his third save of the season.

Dodgers starting pitcher Zach Lee (9-5) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs and six hits over six innings. He issued one walk and struck out five.

The Dodgers tied a season high by turning four double plays.

With Tacoma’s win in the series finale, the teams split the lone set of the season between the teams, 2-2.

The Dodgers continue their homestand and open a four-game series against the Reno Aces at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
